New deal lifts Davidson

Davidson last week signed a 12-month extension to the contract he agreed when he joined from Livingston last summer to tie him to McDiarmid Park until 2013.

The 22-year-old told the club's official website: "We've been speaking for a couple of weeks and it is good to have it sorted out so early in the close season. It is similar to last year when I signed within a few days of the season coming to a close and it definitely helps having it sorted out early - it means you have nothing hanging over you during the summer."

The attacking midfielder has also helped his positive mindset by recovering a groin problem that forced him to pull out of two Scotland Under-21 squads last season.

"The groin problem seems to be sorted out now," he said.

"I travelled to Leicester for two courses of sugar injections and they have done the trick and I've been pain-free for the past couple of months or so.

"I would like to get the third and final injection during the close season and, combined with a summer of rest, I'll be raring to go for next season."

Davidson earned many plaudits for his debut season in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League after netting five goals.

"I was generally happy with my own displays," he said.

"Some people said I would need six months to settle into the SPL but I didn't agree and without being over-confident I felt I would be able to handle it quickly."
