SAINTS SOUL SEARCHING AGAIN

was disappointed by the lacklustre showing on Saturday.

"To go from beating Falkirk 3-0 to drawing 1-1 here with Ayr United is disappointing to say the least. None of the boys played well to be honest. I don’t think there was anyone who you could say shone in that match."

Peaso even questioned the work rate of the team unit;

"Can you say we worked hard enough? As the gaffer said to us, it was questionable. Results are better away from home just now but that shouldn’t be the case. I love playing at McDiarmid and if you can’t play football on a big pitch like this you shouldn’t be playing. On the smaller pitches maybe we have to battle more, but we have to battle week in, week out, no matter who or where we are playing."

Saturday’s showing was not that of a championship winning side;

"Good teams dig out results, and we couldn’t manage to do that. We were gutted to lose that goal so late on and now we have to work hard in training over the next two weeks before our trip to Ross County. The two weeks will be two weeks too long. Every game is a big game just now and it’s our own fault because we’re making it hard for ourselves."

Billy Stark was determined to "get the three points and using the two week break."

"It looked as if we had managed to do that. But, we defended poorly and we really have to do better than that."

Even though Saints scraped a goal, the lead was surrendered in the dying minutes;

"We were off the pace I wanted to play at and it wasn’t a good performance but we huffed and puffed and got the breakthrough. Even without getting a second goal we should have been able to close out the game. We failed to do it, and once again it was another scrappy goal we lost which has been in keeping with our season."

Luckily for Saints, results across the country could have been a great deal worse with only QOS and ICT winning. Falkirk and Ross County sacrificed the opportunity to hop up the table. John O’Neil missed a penalty against St.Mirren, and County conceded a sloppy own-goal late on and drew with Clyde.
