Parkin, who began his career at Chelsea alongside influential Saints midfielder Jody Morris, was called up for the Scotland Future squad in 2005.
The striker, who trained at St Johnstone's Warwick base last week, counts Ipswich, Luton and Swindon among his former clubs.
Parkin scored three goals for Walsall last season.
