Graham Gartland has recovered from a virus and returns to the St Johnstone squad for Tuesday's match against Aberdeen at McDiarmid Park. However, Steven Anderson, Martin Hardie, Peter MacDonald, Stuart McCaffrey and captain Kevin Rutkiewicz are missing for the Perth Saints.

Davide Grassi returns from suspension for Aberdeen, who have no fresh injury worries for the contest.

Peter Pawlett and Andrew Considine are long-term absentees.

St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes: "In our games in hand we beat Hibs and Falkirk and this match against Aberdeen is another one.

"It is important that we take advantage, especially against teams who are around us.

"We went above Aberdeen with the win at Falkirk but if we lose against them then we go back behind them.

"So our motivation is to get the win and get clear of them."

Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee: "I think to reach the top six we will have to win twice against them, not only tomorrow night.

"I have been very impressed with their arrival in the division. They hit the ground running. They played with no fear of the SPL.

"I saw them beat Falkirk, they nicked the goal at the end, showing a great deal of endeavour and commitment."
