St Johnstone kept alive their faint promotion hopes with this convincing victory over fourth-placed Clyde.

St Johnstone were unlucky not to be in front in the 30th minute when Paul Sheerin had a volley bravely blocked by Craig Bryson.

The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute, and full-back Simon Mensing provided the goal with his second effort of the game. After being set up by John Henry, Mensing powered a right-footed shot past Clyde's Paul Jarvie.

Clyde responded by having their first and only effort of the first half two minutes later. Substitute Steven Masterton's long-range shot just missed the top left-hand corner.

On the stroke of half time Jarvie did well to deny Ryan Stevenson, deflecting his long-range drive wide.

Clyde came into the game more in the second half and went close in the 52nd minute with St Johnstone keeper Mark Glennon doing well to hold Masterton's 30-yard drive. The same player again threatened from distance in the 74th minute, but again Glennon was equal to the task.

The news of St Mirren leading Airdrie for the whole of the second half seemed to drain any of the home side's enthusiasm for the match, and they nearly paid the penalty in injury time. Eddie Malone struck a beautiful free-kick which forced Glennon into a magnificent one-handed save to keep all three points in Perth.
