A clearly crestfallen Owen Coyle claimed after the match that Saints would ignore eveyone else's results and fight on to try and turn their fortunes around.

A poor run of results has seen The Saints drop seven of the last nine points. With St Mirren continuing to pile on the points powering apparently to the Premier League, Saints are struggling to keep in touch and keep their own promotion chances alive.

It has to be said that Saints should have won this match by a fair distance before they fell victim to a first half smash-and-grab raid by Stranraer.

With virtually their first move beyond the halfway line, David Hamilton took advantage of a defensive mix-up as the home side failed to clear Michael Moore's header across the goalmouth and tucked the ball home past Kevin Cuthbert after team-mate Allan Jenkins helped it on.

The Saints fans had seen a hatful of chances come and go. Ryan Stevenson had four good efforts either go wide or saved by Barry-John Corr.

Paul Sheerin grabbed a point for Saints with time running out, getting on the end of a Kevin James knock-down to drill home after 82 minutes.

The aforementioned Corr broke the Perth fans' hearts with the final whistle beckoning as he dived to pull off a great save from a Steve Milne header.
