The Paisley Saints are still six points clear of Hamilton at the top of the table but they should have won this game by a barrel load. That they didn't was due to a magnificent display of goalkeeping by Perth stopper Kevin Cuthbert.

After Jason Scotland had fired over, St Mirren kept up a relentless bombardment of the visitors' goal. Charlie Adam tested Cuthbert before the keeper made a fabulous double save. Simon Lappin's cross was met by Stewart Kean, but Cuthbert blocked superbly. John Sutton swooped to hit the rebound from a few yards, but Cuthbert threw his frame at the ball and deflected the ball away.

Lappin teased Simon Mensing before crossing for Adam, whose shot flew over. David van Zanten had a low drive saved by the indomitable keeper, and then saw another effort held. Cuthbert ended the first half with a well-judged tip-over from a dangerous Kirk Broadfoot lob.

St Johnstone should have gone ahead two minutes into the second half, but Steven Milne scooped over after Scotland's fine run and cross. Cuthbert was soon denying the home side again - saving a snap-shot with his right leg.

Kean headed against the post from Lappin's corner, but Cuthbert held firm for the remainder of the match, ably assisted by Kevin Rutkiewicz and Kevin James.

Although there were no goals the spectators were thoroughly entertained throughout, even though referee Thomson enraged the crowd and players with some bizarre decisions.
